Rymer Liriano signed with the Padres as an international free agent in 2009 out of the Dominican Republic. As quickly as 2011, he became one of the club's best prospects. In 2012 he was selected to appear in the Futures Game in Kansas City.. He made a big impression on scouts during the batting practice session before the game. Unfortunately, after the 2012 season ended he injured his elbow and had to miss the entire 2013 campaign after undergoing Tommy John surgery to repair it. He returned in 2014 and eventually earned a call up to the big league team in August. By doing so he became the first player the team had graduated to the big leagues that had attended the organization's baseball camp in the Dominican Republic.
