Trade History

  • In 1993, the Padres acquired one of their franchise's key players when they were forced to trade 3B Gary Sheffield as part of a fire sale. The player they acquired was P Trevor Hoffman. P Jose Martinez and P Andres Beruman were also sent to the Padres and P Rich Rodriguez accompanied Sheffield to Florida.
  • In 1997, the Padres acquired a key piece to their 1998 NL Champion team when they got P Kevin Brown from the Marlins in exchange for top prospect 1B Derrek Lee, P Rafael Medina and minor league P Steve Hoff.
  • In 2001, the Padres gave up on P Matt Clement and shipped him off with OF Eric Owens and minor league P Omar Ortiz and got back CF Mark Kotsay and INF Cesar Crespo.
  • In 2010, the Padres took a chance on former top prospect CF Cameron Maybin and gave the Marlins P Ryan Webb and P Edward Mujica as payment for that lottery ticket.
  • In 2011, they signed Heath Bell for a 3 year contract in their first offseason as the Miami Marlins. But, for the 2nd year in a row, the Padres and Marlins traded with one another. This time, the Padres traded Wade LeBlanc to Miami for John Baker. The trade was rated 82% fresh.[1]
