Edward Mujica was a relief pitcher and emergency starter for the Padres. He first entered Padres lore as the Cleveland Indians reliever brought in against the Padres to hold a 3-3 tie but then loaded the bases, walked in a run and gave up a grand slam to then Padre Kevin Kouzmanoff. The next year, in an act of desperation, the Padres acquired him when he released by the Indians. He gained popularity when he became a fairly reliable late inning reliever in 2009. The affection the Gaslamp Ball fans had for him led to the nickname Mojito, which is a re-imagining of his last name and perhaps an association with the Padres fans need to turn to drinking during parts of the 2009 season.
He has recently been accused of attempting to murder a Gaslamp Baller, and it's been suggested he should be released as soon as possible. His high home run rate has proven in 2010 to be more than pretty much any Gaslamp Baller can tolerate.
Following the 2010 season, Mujica's stay in San Diego ended when he, along with Ryan Webb, were traded to Florida for Cameron Maybin.
