Dirk Hayhurst

From Gaslamp Ball Wiki - A Wiki for San Diego Padres Fans

Dirk Hayhurst was a Padres 2003 draftee. He was called up at the end of 2008 and pitched 18 forgettable innings. If you remember him actually playing for the Padres...you are lying. Dirk ended up pitching a bit in Toronto, but is better known for his tweets, his blogs[1][2] and his books. His first book was the The Bullpen Gospels: Major League Dreams of a Minor League Veteran[3] and the second was Out of My League[4]. jbox called Out of My League the "Best baseball book of 2012!"[5] After he tweeted his experience with Italian baseball jodes0405 gave a recap on Gaslamp Ball.[6] In 2014 he wrote an article for Sportsoneearth.com that was supposed to "light the world afire" by exposing rape culture in baseball.[7] It seemed to fail in that goal because even though the incidents he reported on were heinous and condemned, his framing of himself as an innocent bystander above reproach was called as cowardly and self-serving.
